Spring is Here!   Hewlett Packard is coming to Rio Rancho!

         

Ground was officially broken on the new HP site on January 7, 2009. HP’s target operational date for this new facility is late 2009, early 2010. Below is an aerial and a ground view of the project under construction next to the new Rio Rancho City Hall. The building will be 210,000 sq. ft. with room for 1,800 seats. Amenities include a spacious ground floor common area, a fitness facility, cafeteria, and 10' ceilings.

  • DreamWorks Animation is coming to Rio Rancho as well! They will be located on site with intel. They will be using Intel Corp.’s Encanto supercomputer to create their 3-D films.  The DreamWorks deal is one of the first commercial partnerships to come out of the New Mexico Computing Applications Center, that isteamed up with the University of New Mexico, the New Mexico Department of Information Technology, National LambdaRail, and Cerelink DMG to bring the project to reality.

Insigniam Innovation Discovery Center also said it will use Encanto to simulate models to improve health care delivery. Insigniam Innovation plans to  hire 65 employees.

Encanto, which is located at Intel in Rio Rancho, is the 12th fastest computer in the world. It is the fastest non-federal computer. As the projects expand, they are expected to create up to 100 high-tech, high-wage jobs.

 

Here come another huge expansion for Intel! On February 10, 2009 Intel Corp. announced an investment of $2.5 billion for upgrades at its Rio Rancho plant to gear up for its next generation 32 nanometer chips. The new 32 nanometer chip will be smaller, faster, and consume less energy.

This investment follows a $2 billion commitment made in 2007 to automate and retool the Rio Rancho Fab 11x to manufacture 45 nanometer chips.  Another 1,500 contract jobs will be created in the next 18 months from this project.

 

           New Presbyterian Hopital for Rio Rancho!                   UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center at City Center!

 

In 2008, Presbyterian Healthcare Services and University of New Mexico Health Services Center each announced their plans to erect hospitals in Rio Rancho. Although both healthcare providers projected 2010 opening dates at different sites, they projects have been delayed due to the recession and the financial crisis. It is expected that the projects will resume in 2010.  

Presbyterian Healthcare Services announced it would construct a $200 million, 120 bed hospital on 66 acres on the northeast corners of Unser and Westside Boulevards. Upon completion of the first phase, the Presbyterian hospital will be 340,000 square feet and a four story medical office building will be 133,000 square feet.

 The Presbyterian hospital is expected to create more than 600 jobs.

The University of New Mexico Sandoval Regional Medical Center (UNM SRMC) also announced in May that it will build a hospital on the Rio Rancho university campus set to open in 2011 or 2012.

The 280,000 square foot UNM medical center  will open with 75 private rooms with the capacity to expand to 150. Full build-out will consist of 300+ beds. The medical center is expected to generate $158 million for the local economy every year through service-related spending.
